Free Money Exercise
- Where will you go?
-I will go on with my day regularly as I would any normal sunday.
- What kind of people will you approach?
-I will approach people who I see that are involved on campus and are promoting a organization or philanthropy event.
- What will you say to get the conversation started?
-I will tell them that they earned a dollar and that it was because they give up their time to raise money for others so that I wanted to give them a dollar to help out with whatever they need.
- What is your plan for the conversation?
-Be very casual and tell them thank you essentially for being involved and helping all those people.
- Out of five attempts, how many dollar bills do you think you will be able to give away.
-I think I will be able to give away all 5 but I only recorded 2 seeing as it was rather awkward.

Reflection:
What are your reflections on this exercise?
-That it was interesting and liked how it made me stop and think about others in the world and who deserved the dollar most.
Was giving away a dollar easier or harder than you imagined?
-Way easier as I was able to give away all 5 but the video recordings were the most interesting part and awkward almost.
Were your predictions correct or incorrect? If they were incorrect, why?
-They were correct as I was able to give away all of them to the service people from DM and at a philanthropy event at Flavet field.
What assumptions did you make about the people you planned to talk to, which were wrong?
-I assumed that saying thank you was enough and that they would take the dollar and they, in fact, did.

Hey Mitch!
ReplyDeleteI think that your approach to giving away the dollars was very interesting. I agree that people are probably more likely to accept a gift if they believe that they have earned it. The people that you gave the dollars to probably believed you when you thanked them for their time, work, and dedication. The one problem that I am having with your post is that your youtube account is not working. I think that you have the video settings on private because I am unable to view the clip you included. I'm sure that the video taking probably was a little bit awkward, but I wish that I could see it. I was unable to complete the assignment myself, but it was interesting to hear about it from your perspective.
Hey Mitch,
ReplyDeleteWhile I wasn't able to actually view your video because its private I think you did a great job. This was a really tough assignment because it involves getting out of your comfort zone and it can get pretty awkward, especially when there are people being filmed. I like your approach to giving the dollar away, it shows that you are able to target potential audiences well, which you did in this exercise. While I wasn't able to do complete this assignment, you can read about my target audiences for my product at http://carolinalafuent3003.blogspot.com/
Hey Mitch!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't able to see your video.. it was private on youtube.. However I think your strategy for giving away dollars was cool! I think it was nice of you to recognize people giving their time to volunteer for an organization. Even though they only received a dollar, it was nice to recognize their actions!
I did not complete this assignment, but it was cool reading about your post!
sorry bout that. forgot to hit public when I published it. Should be good now as I changed the settings of the video.
ReplyDeleteMitch,
ReplyDeleteYou came up with a great approach to "customers" which made it very easy for you to give away all five dollars. I am sure they all appreciated the fact that you recognized they were doing great deeds. Way to go out there and out of your comfort zone!
Yeah, I didn't do this activity because I've had such bad experiences trying to talk to people on camera-- but you seemed to have figured it out! What I liked, especially, about your two interviews was how decidedly un-awkward the videos appeared. Good job!
ReplyDeleteMitch,
ReplyDeleteI think you were very enthusiastic and really seemed to capture the goal of the assignment. From what I could see, the people you gave a dollar to were all in and kind of going with it like you were. I also like that were were diligent in giving the money away and did not just go to one place but rather a few places around campus. Great job! Hey Mitch, I really enjoyed watching your videos and the reaction of those guys were hilarious. I didn’t get a chance to do my free money post because I was too shy so I felt it would’ve been an awkward encounter. I’m replaying the last part of the video a lot because I just think his reaction is priceless. Check out my blog though:

I really liked your enthusiasm in giving away free money. I am not surprised that you were able to give away the money so easily for a couple reasons. The first is that you are such a handsome guy that I’m sure people are interested in coming up to speak with you. The other, is simply that those two looked like they needed the dollar. It’s like I could see it in their eyes.
