1) Find an opportunity.
-More sustainable alternative for water bottles
2) Figure out who might have the unmet need.
-The environment demands a more sustainable alternative and I believe a canned, collapsible water product could fill this void.
3) Come up with a list of questions.
-How do you dispose of your water bottles?
-Do you recycle your bottles?
-Would you drink canned water if it was a more environmentally sustainable option?
-Would you be more likely to recycle collapsible cans than a bottle?
-Would it more or less appealing if the can of water was collapsible after use to help with space in your recycling bin?
4) Go talk to customers! Video at Publix below:
5) Tell us what you learned about the opportunity.
-I learned that perhaps this idea could be marketable if, in fact, it is more sustainable and it had data to back that up. I think that if the metal can was easier and saved space in your recycle bin then it could get a solid hold in the market for water bottles themselves.
6) Tell us what you learned about interviewing customers.
-I learned that this idea was a decent one but it was still hard to explain to some customers what the benefits were. Next time, I will most likely choose people who are purchasing water bottles at the time of the interview and not just random people around the store in order to fine tune my results to more active users of water bottles.

Mitch,
ReplyDeleteI think your idea is great. I am all about saving the environment and your canned water is something I would definitely think about using. I was a little confused at first. I realize now that that this is a disposable thing and a substitute for a Zephyrhills hills water bottle. At first, I thought it was a substitute for reusable water bottles and I was a little confused with your idea, but now I understand and think this could go really far if you explain more and look more into it! Great work!

I think this could definitely be a trendy thing. Glass Bottled water is prestigious, but maybe a redesigned can façade would catch on as trendy. You did a great job with the interviews. They were short, but they were just customers so I think it was actually a positive attribute. Maybe having a can that is fun to crush? some colors match up? I have no idea.
ReplyDeleteHey Mitch,
ReplyDeleteI think you have a great idea with the sustainable water bottle products! I definitely think that the world needs to learn how to be more green and energy efficient. Your idea would be a great alternative to all of the waste that is normally produced, and I think it’s very unique. I definitely could see this becoming a trend.

Thank you!
I like your idea a lot and you questioning shows that you have put a good amount of thought into it. I think having an idea and opportunity that helps the environment will appeal to many demographics and get people interested. The video was short but you had a good continuous theme in your questions. I think you did a great job and can’t wait to see where you take this idea
ReplyDeleteHey Mitch, I think you have a rather interesting idea although I have to say that the concept you address is already somewhat old since there are so many variations of water bottles. but I believe that you can change the industry for water bottles. I think you have goos skills in interviewing customers and that it will become easier as the time goes by but most importantly never lose your will of making your dreams come true or something you think will help the world happen.
ReplyDeleteand remember to have fun while doing it !

Hey there,
ReplyDeleteGood concept you have here. My one suggestion would be to have the data to back up your concept before asking people what they think? Also isn't there something like this already available? A water bottle that is water and will disintegrate when your finished drinking? If not, someone made really cool video showing this idea. Either way I think its really important that we as a generation start paying attention to our planet and what needs to be done to preserve it. Great job!

Hello Mitch,
ReplyDeleteI was a little confused about your idea, but eventually I put two and two together and realized what you plan on doing with the canned water bottles. I'm all for sustainability and this really is something that I've never thought of before. You're starting a new path, so it's expected for some of the customers to be a little bit confused with the concept. The best takeaway from this interview was both the experience and awareness gained. You understand that you have to cater your questions to consumers who actually come in to the stores to buy plastic water bottles, such as myself. If you ever wanted my feedback, feel free to send me a message!

Hi Mitch, I really liked your idea and thought that all of your interviews were solid. It's very important to make sure that even though an idea sounds good, it also sounds good to the customer. Often customers can be very short-sighted when it comes to the environment, but I imagine they would support your idea.
